Data, Controls, and Variables

Intro to New Material



1. Open your science notebook to page 8R and copy down the following notes

I.                    Data: Information gathered during an experiment; this will either help you accept or reject your hypothesis.
A.      Qualitative Observations – quality, opinion
B.      Quantitative Observations – quantity, measurement (number and unit)

II.                  Data Tables are used to record data during a lab experiment
A.      Always have titles and labels

III.                Data can be displayed using charts or graphs
A.      Charts and graphs always have titles and labels
 Summary: Write a 3 sentence summary in your science notebook about the notes above. 



1.5 BEFORE you begin the guided practice, listen to this song to review controls and variables! Make sure you have your headphones on BEFORE you hit play.




2. Remove your headphones! Begin the guided practice by filling out the form below. 


3. After you submit your Guided Practice form, close your laptop (DO NOT LOG OUT) and assign yourself to your reading book





4. Check out the following fun (and hilarious) science (and non science) videos! Make sure to have your headphones plugged in BEFORE you hit play!






5. After checking out the videos remove your headphones and shut down your laptop. Assign yourself to your reading book until the class is ready to review the Independent Practice
